INTENDED PURPOSE OF USE FOR YOUR BIKE
The intended purpose of your bicycle must match the type of riding you do. Choosing the wrong bike can be dangerous for you and can lead to injuries and damage to your bike. No bike can do it all. Your ram dealer can help you choose the right tool for the task and understand each bike’s limitations. Apart from choosing the right bike, you need to determine the right size that is most suitable for your body.№1 road, commuting bikes
These bikes are designed to be ridden on smooth pavement or tarmac, where tires don’t loose conu-tact with the surface. Designed for: riding only on tarmac or smooth pavement. Not designed for: off-road riding or any other extreme type of riding.
Maximum front suspension travel: 80mm№2 cross country, marathon
Bikes: ht.One, ht.Two, ht.Three, xc.One, xc.Two
These bikes are designed for riding on smooth trails and fire roads and they allow going over small obsu-tacles and momentary loss of conu-tact with the ground. This category features hardtail mountainbikes as well as some rear suspension designs. Designed for: cross country riding (both recreational and racing), the terrain varies from easy to reasonably challenging (for example, going up and down hills with various small obsu-tacles like roots, rocks, muddy sections). Cross country bikes are designed to be light and easy to pedal over long distances. Suspension travel is relatively short, because the obsu-tacles are small and the bike is not designed for jumps of any kind. Not designed for: freeride, downhill, dirt jumps, slopestyle or any other overly aggressive and extreme riding.
Maximum front suspension travel: 130mm№3 all mountain, enduro
Bikes: nduro, am.One, am.Two
Compared to the two categories above, these bikes are designed for riding on rougher, more technical terrain featuring average sized obsu-tacles as well as small jumps. Designed for: riding mountain bike trails of average to high difficulty. These bikes are stronger and heavier than the cross-country bikes, but they’re still lighter and more nimble than freeride/downhill bikes. They have longer suspension travel than cross-country bikes, which allows them to u-tackle rougher terrain with bigger obsu-tacles and some jumps. They are built to allow maximum versatility over extremely varied terrain. Not designed for: big jumps and hardcore terrain like those in big-mountain freeride, downhill, northshore type stunts, dirt jumps, etc.. These bikes won’t handle large drops, requiring longer suspension travel and burly components.
Maximum front suspension travel: 160mm№4 freeride, downhill
These bikes are built for large jumps, high speeds and aggressive riding over the roughest terrain the mountains have to offer. They have to cope with significant loads and high stress. If you want to do this kind of riding, it is advisable to do frequent visual checks of the bike and periodically replace some of the components which could fail due to material fatigue. You need to ride with proper safety gear at all times – full face helmet, knee pads, body armor… Designed for: riding downhill over the roughest terrain, suitable only to expert riders. The bikes are heavier and have longer suspension travel than the all mountain bikes, which allows them to be ridden on rougher terrain with big obsu-tacles and large jumps. Not designed for: going uphill (they don’t have the gears for that), big jumps with flat landings
Maximum front suspension travel: 210mm
№5 dirt jump / street
Bikes designed for jumping and performing tricks. They undergo significant stress and must handle high loads on the landings. If you want to do this kind of riding, it is advisable to do frequent visual checks of the bike and periodically replace some of the components which can fail due to material fatigue.
Designed for: riding man-made dirt jumps, ramps, skate parks, urban architectural and landscape features or any other kind of obsu-tacle that requires pure skill instead of suspension. Not designed for: going uphill (they don’t have the gears at all), rough terrain or large jumps which might require long travel suspension.
Maximum front suspension travel: 100mm
№6 four cross
Bikes designed for racing four cross. As purely race weapons, their frames are much lighter and less burly than the ones made for dirt jumping, and although they seem similar, they should not be confused. Four cross bikes should not be used for dirt jumping or street riding.
Designed for: four cross races on special man-made tracks, featuring different obsu-tacles – berms, jumps, rollers, etc.. Not designed for: rough terrain or large jumps which might require long travel suspension, dirt jumping, street riding, doing tricks.
Maximum front suspension travel: 120mm
